A Tour De France Historic for Shimano

Athletes using Shimano components have conquered yellow, green shirts, red and white polka dots, plus wins in the 21 stages of the test
The 104 edition of the Tour de France, the world’s most famous cycling test was an unprecedented achievement for Shimano, a world-leading company in the market for cycling components: each of the 2017 TDF steps, as well as the main ratings, were won by cyclists using Japanese brand components.
From the opening, in the proof of time attack, defeated by the athlete Geraint Thomas (GBR), of the Sky Team, using Shimano Dura-Ace R9150 components specific to the mode, up to the final sprint in the last step in Paris, defeated by Dylan Groenewegen (HOL), from the LottoNL-Jumbo team, all cyclists had their bikes equipped with Shimano’s Dura-Ace line Group.
Chris Froome (GBR), Team Sky crew, claimed the title of general classification using transmission, brakes, wheels and Dura-Ace pedals, along with the combination handlebar and Stealth table (plus guiding ribbon) of the PRO brand, in an impeccable performance, defending the yellow shirt on 14 of the 21 tour steps to ensure its fourth overall ranking title at the Tour de France in the last five years.
Meanwhile, Michael Matthews (AUS) and Warren Barguil (FRA), Team Team Sunweb, and Simon Yates (GBR), from Orica-Scott, won the rankings by points, mountain and young athlete, ensuring the green shirts, red and white polka dots, respectively. The three ran with the Shimano Dura-Ace R9150 series and its versatile range of marching combinations to offer high-level performance in gear shifts to all possible situations encountered during the 21 stages of the Tour de France 2017.
Notwithstanding all these results, one of the most productive cyclists in the flat stages of the Tour this year was Marcel Kittel (ALE) of the team Quickstep Floor, which conquered five victories, including the first win in a stage of the event using Shimano Dura-Ace R9170 hydraulic disc brakes.
“Disc brakes are a major breakthrough in terms of technological development, which we have for the future of cycling. Especially in damper conditions, these brakes help cyclists to brake better, “said Kittel.
Already Warren Barguil has been winner of the Tour’s mountain stages, competing with Shimano’s Power Meter FC-9100-P. “My first impressions of Shimano’s Power Meter are very good. The data is consistent, it is very easy to use and hardly adds extra weight. Magnifique! “, stated the French Barguil.
The final step of this year’s Tour de France was defeated by Dutch Dylan Groenewegen, who not only uses Shimano Dura-Ace on his Bianchi bike, but also compete with Shimano S-PHYRE cycling shoes and bicycle clothing, plus Shimano R-series cycling goggles.
Of the 22 teams this year, eight are sponsored directly by Shimano. They are: Française Des Jeux, Trek-Segafredo, LottoNL-Jumbo, Team Sunweb, Orica-Scott, BMC, Bora-Hansgrohe and Sky team. These teams divided wins in 11 stages, including the six-decisive mountain, from 13th to 18th.
The sports marketing manager of Shimano Europa, Rudy Bouwmeester, was emphatic: “We are extremely proud to work with the best teams and cyclists in the world. Forming these partnerships so closely with teams and cyclists of this caliber, is a crucial part of our product development strategy. At the beginning of 2017 we deliver the Dura-Ace R9150 to the teams of the World Tour and now it is amazing to see the victories and results that our partners are getting. Of the victories in the classical springs of the spring until the Conquistasno Giro d’italia and now in the Tour de France “.
